Deco Mesh Revisited

I know that by now everyone has probably heard a lot about Deco Mesh and these Deco Mesh wreaths we've been making (especially if you have been reading the blog), but I wanted to touch on the subject again because I've just been informed that our stores have sold out of red deco mesh ribbon. For those of you who still want to make a very traditionally red and green Christmas wreath, here's the solution:

Isn't it just as beautiful? This wreath is made using the same techniques and even some of the same supplies as the original Deco Mesh wreath. The only difference is that the red ribbon used for this wreath is our poly satin ribbon (which is also on sale at the moment, by the way) and not the deco mesh ribbon. The poly satin ribbons are sold in a ton of different colors and sizes and come on very big spools. They are a good alternative for something like this wreath but also very good for gift wrapping and other decorations.

I hope this was helpful to everyone. If there are any questions or you would like to see this wreath in person, please, please, please drop by at Enchanted Lake. We will gladly help you with this or any of your Christmas projects.

Last Minute Christmas Cards

I don't mean to scare anyone, but did you know that there are only 33 more days til Christmas? For the sake of all those procrastinators out there, like me, here are 3 cute and quick Christmas cards that you can make before anyone says "Holly Jolly Christmas".

Find some brown paper bag card stock or craft card stock to punch this awesomely handsome reindeer out of. The punch is from EK Success and the Christmas ribbon is from American Crafts.

Line the bottom inside of this card with red paper then punch these amazing snowflakes out of the front of the card. This is the scalloped snowflake punch from Martha Stewart's punch all over the page collection. I popped "wishing you joy" out on this one but you don't have to, you could just print it straight to the card.

A few rhinestones in the center of the snowflakes could really jazz this simple card up. I like the clean lines and that supremely cool snowflake border made with the Martha Stewart double-edge punch.

I printed all the sentiments for these cards out on our printer, but if your computer is uncooperative you can use stickers or stamps with the same effect.

I hope this helps; these cards should be great for those mass Christmas mailings.

P.S. Please take a look at the previous post - it's Christmas on Crankin' Out Crafts too!

Turkey Time

Whoops! I was so focused on Christmas that I almost forgot about Thanksgiving! For everyone else out there like me, Thanksgiving is on the 24th this year. Here's a special project I dreamt up just in time for the occasion.

They're place card holders for your Thanksgiving dinner table. This would be a good project to have your kids help you with because it's quick and pretty simple.

Your supplies are: scrapbooking paper (in fall colors), chipboard "gear" shapes, mini clothespins, a wooden spoon (like the kind you get with those little cups of ice cream), a pencil, scissors, and double stick tape or glue.

First, measure and mark your mini clothespin on the wooden spoon. Use your scissors to cut the spoon on the marked line.

Next, trace two gear shapes and one spoon shape on scrapbooking paper and cut out. Glue or tape the paper to the shapes.

Then, draw two eyes for your turkey face and cut out a small triangle for it's nose. Glue or tape the mini clothespin to the gear shape and then the turkey face to the clothespin. Make sure that everything will stand up before gluing.

The place card gets inserted in the mini clothespin so your guests know where to sit. That's it! I think I'll name my turkey "Sprocket." Have a fun and wonderful Thanksgiving!

*Also, check out Puna's earlier post on how to make the Ribbon Tree!

Ribbon Tree

Okay, so here is another great Christmas decor idea that is easy to make and pretty quick to put together. You might have seen these Ribbon Trees at our stores the past couple of Christmases, but I wanted to take a little time, here on the blog, to go over how to make them, because a lot of people are still interested in making them.

All you need is a Styrofoam cone for your base, straight pins (the pins pictured are satin pins but most any kind of straight pin would work), ribbon (wired or not), and scissors.

Next, cut some ribbon into approximately 6 inch lengths. It's not necessary to measure every piece of ribbon perfectly to 6 inches, so don't worry if you're off here and there. Also, the amount of ribbons you need will vary on the height of your tree, so cut only a few at first and then cut more as you need them.

Next, to start putting your tree together, use the straight pins to add ribbons to the cone base. I always pin the top two corners so that the ribbon doesn't move around. To finish this row, I will continue to add ribbons around the base, overlapping each other slightly.

For the rest of the tree, each subsequent row will overlap about half of the previous row. You can also change colors for each row to vary the look of your tree.

For my finishing touch, I topped off the trees with small bows. I really like the way the bows work on these trees because they blend really well with the rest of the trees.

Pretty simple right? Of course, if you have any questions or want to see this finished project up close and personal, visit us at Enchanted Lake. We will be happy to give you a demonstration or help you get started on your own personal decor project.

Thanks for dropping in!
