Market City's Tropical Escape

Lush tropical gardens are so relaxing, a palm tree, potted orchids to give that vibrant color, clear glass and mirrors to give that "refreshing" clean feeling and a shoji screen to enjoy that solitude.

Our monthly Bead Shop Sale starts on January 7 exclusively at our Mapunapuna, Hilo, and Maui BFC Stores and that is when we will release our free worksheet featuring our Year of the Rabbit Key Chain! This little cutie is made out of 6 and 8mm beads but you can always adjust the size and type of beads if you want to make a phone or purse charm, just stop by one of our bead shops and we can help you with your selection. Chinese New Year begins on February 3rd so you still have lots of time to make something rabbit themed.

BEADED KUMIHIMO BRACELET

Kumihimo, "gathering of threads", is the Japanese art of braiding. This thousands years old craft creates stunning and beautiful braids. Braids are often made using a marudai with many bobbins and a complex set of moves. However, Kumihimo Disks are now available and, using basic moves, can create a variety of braids using different combinations of colour, texture and material. These two bracelets were created on a Kumihimo disk using the same beginner's basic round braid sequence. The use of different beads creates a different look. Find the disks at the stores and enjoy creating bracelets, necklaces and other cords. Classes are scheduled at the Pearl City store on January 5, 13 and 26 to create beaded Kumihimo bracelets.

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou. Happy New Year from all of us at Market City to you and your family! A little way to start spreading the Aloha spirit this 2011. Using the mini clear pail, raffia, and ribbon flowers. A great way to send that Hawaii sunshine anywhere in the world.

Happy New Punches Year!

I just LOVE the NEW YEAR especially when it brings NEW CRAFTS!!! I am just loving these new punches from Martha Stewart Crafts, the Punch All Over the Page.

The name says it all, you can place the punch components anywhere on your cardstock and punch away! The two pieces come apart and one corner has an angle to it, so you know where to line it up. But even if you try to do it wrong, the strong corner magnets will not stick together unless it's correct, making it sorta goof proof!

I had read on the web that it may not work well with some thicker cardstocks but I tried it on Bazzill and the American Crafts brands and it worked fine.

Right now, we have 6 designs to choose from.

Here's one of two heart designs. See how they were able to center it on the Accu Cut heart favor box!

My favorite is the Rose Window. The bonus is you get a cute scalloped circle punched out to use, too. I haven't made anything yet but there's a lot of ideas popping in my head.

Anyways, just had to share these cool new punches! Thanks for stopping by today. Here's wishing you and your families a safe and Happy New Year!

Happy Crafting!

Happy New Year

Fireworks, kadomatsu, pancit, biko, pan dulce, eating grapes or 12 round fruits, and mochi pounding are among the many cultural traditions to celebrate the new year. These earrings were inspired by the kagamimochi found in many Japanese homes...learn to make these at the store demonstrations...or join us at the Pearl City store for a make/take on Thursday, December 30th from 10:30am-12noon and 2:30pm-3:30pm! Great to give as a gift or wear them yourself! Thank you for your support, it was a very fun and creative year! 2011 is sure to bring more creative ideas and inspirations!

Reindeers have left Market City...coming your way.

HO, HO, HO, Merry Christmas! Just a little quick favor that you can make to get ready for Santa tonight.

Using all those "extra" candy canes that you got, a little bit of yarn (around 3-5 yards), a little pom-pom for a nose and some moving eyes. If you got 3 in 1 glue or Fabri-tac or even a hot glue gun you're set.

Using the candy canes as antlers wrap the yarn around the straight part of the candy candy tuck the edges between the candy canes (glue not necessary). Then glue on the eyes and the nose.

Hang on the tree and you're all set.
