A Sand Keeper

Don't you love it when inspiration strikes you at the most unforeseen moment? My inspiration for today's blog came to me when a friend of mine was shopping for a tray to place some small flowers in. After searching through the store, he settled on this wooden piece that has small partitions and a sliding glass door. When he added the small, corked bottles to it I knew that we had a great idea in the making.

Here is my take on what he and I put together that day. I'm going to call it a sand keeper  but really it could hold any small mementos from trips for a beautiful display. I painted the box with our Americana Multi-surface paints in a few beachy colors and later added some shells to the outside.

Craft bottles are in each compartment to hold sand or small shells. Mementos could also be simply placed inside the keeper. To distinguish one section from the other, I just wrote out small tags with place names on them and attached them to the bottles with bakers twine.

I hope you like the idea, you could stop by our Enchanted Lake store to see it, if you wanted to.

Aurora's Earrings

Sea shells are still popular in jewelry trends here so we've made a pair of earrings! Don't forget that we carry sea shells and the diamond encrusted drill bits to make the holes! I used Swarovski pearls and crystals for some added bling.  With the pearl nestled inside of the shell, it'll look pretty regardless of any way the shell turns while being worn!  This demo will be on Sunday November 4 at 2 PM and again on Sunday November 11, also at 2 PM so come and visit if you have a chance!

Shell Drilling

Sea shell jewelry is still a hot trend, especially here in Hawaii so come in for our demo on how to drill your sea shells to be able to turn them into lovely jewelry!  Our Ben Franklin Crafts' stores that have extended bead shops (Mapunapuna, Maui, and Hilo) have started carrying diamond encrusted drill bits and they are perfect to use with the rotary tool we sell, we even have a free worksheet to give you tips on what to do!  Our demo will be at our Mapunapuna Bead Shop on Saturday September 15 at 2:00 PM and again on Saturday September 22 also at 2:00 PM.

Thanks for stopping by!

Calling All Beach Babes!

We're doing a demo on another hot trend on Saturday May 21 and 28 between 2 and 3 PM, this time around we'll show you how to make faux sea glass jewelry. The sea shell jewelry trend has been going strong and fits in nicely with our island lifestyle. We took plain glass beads and used glass etching solution to give it that sea glass look then added real sea shells and ocean themed charms to pull it all together. Did you know that we have an entire line of findings with an ocean theme? There's bound to be a design that will catch your fancy.
I don't know if I've been going to the wrong beaches or at the wrong time of day but I can NEVER find any nice sea shells at the beach, if you're like me...not to worry! We have sea shells at the store so you can be the envy of any mermaid!

Thanks for stopping by and I'll catch ya at the store!
