Altered Box

Hello again everyone! I wanted to show off my latest vintage piece using our brand new Tim Holtz line of embellishments. These little findings are so fun to use that I can't seem to stop making things. First, I painted the box a dark brown color with acrylic paint, then I decopaged our new line of SEI paper to cover. I also did a top coat of decopage over the whole box as a sealer. I attached the ornate metal labels, knobs, and corners with E6000 to finish off the piece. I think I need to make one of these for myself; it would make a beautiful jewelry box.
Thanks for stopping by! Next time I'll show you how I made the "dream" label with a neat trick that I learned using packaging tape.

Mehndi Ring Demo!!

Do you have any plans for this Saturday afternoon? If you're free, meet me at the Mapunapuna BFC Bead Shop between 2 and 3 PM and I'll show ya how to make the Mehndi Ring! Big rings are in and this one gets me lots of compliments. Does it look intimidating? I'll show you how to break it down step by step, give you some tips, and I've got all the instructions on a free instruction sheet! Although my demo is a full hour long, I'll be able to make about 3 rings in that time so if you're running a little late...no problem!

Hope to see you on Saturday!

Idea-ology

Our stores have recently brought in a brand new product from Tim Holtz and I couldn't help myself, I needed to show it to everyone.

The line is called idea-ology and it has some great metal pieces that you can use on scrapbooking and wood projects. For my first piece I decided to make a wood frame with a vintage farm house kind of feel to it.

To start I used an RTD wood frame, two colors of acrylic paint, Ceramcoat sealer and crackle, and the idea-ology foliage, corners, and ornate plates.

I used one coat of sealer on the frame before I started to paint, to cut down on paint coats. Then I painted one pretty heavy bottom coat of sandstone paint. After the first coat dried I applied the crackle medium in a medium layer. When the crackle had dried for about 10 minutes, I used a light antique white color for my topcoat.

This is what the crackled frame looked like after everything had dried. I have to say that I had a lot of fun with the crackle medium. It was kind of exciting waiting to see how the crackle would turn out.

To finish up the piece I added just a little bit of the Tim Holtz idea-ology pieces to help the vintage feel. All the metal pieces are in a matching distressed copper color. I put the corners on the outer corner of the frame, added the ornate plate under the picture, and placed two leaves and a flower from the foliage set just above the picture.

Now that I finished my first piece and saw how nicely it came out I'm itching to start on another one. Maybe I'll make a box next.

Thanks for reading!

RTD Stationary

I'm really loving these new recycled stationary sets! Think of them as blank canvases ready to spark your creativity and get you crafting. The other cool thing is that when you're done you have a coordinating set for your office or some wonderful, handmade gifts and favors. They're really cheap too! Most items will only cost you a dollar and the most expensive is only three dollars.

This is what they look like with no decorations. I know they're pretty boring, but remember what I said about "blank canvases".

My first thought was how easy it would be to decorate a stationary set with my brand new Washi tape. The washi tape comes in a few different colors and a few different designs. For this one I only used one color and I decided on a simple stripe design. It only took fifteen minutes for me to make the complete set.

This set is a little more complicated but still pretty easy to put together. I started with the brand new Hero Arts three stamp set. It's called silhouettes, and it made me think about the old cameo jewelry that my great-grandmother used to have. I ended up making a cameo motif with two Marvy Uchida punches, the pink oval punch for the small cream oval and the purple scalloped oval punch for the outer, brown oval. I stamped the silhouettes onto the cream colored ovals with VersaMagic ink in "Jumbo Java." Then I finished off my vintage look by adding some cream colored buttons to the notebooks and pen with a glue gun.

So there it is, some super easy and cute stationary sets that you can put your own stamp on (pun intended, ha ha).

Hope you liked it!
