I Like Big Cups & I Cannot Lie

Happy Maker's Monday! I was so inspired by this funny quote that I had to find a way to turn it into a wall sign. You can find your own favorite funny or inspirational quote and using just a few simple materials, can make your own very fancy sign! This simple idea can be used on SO many wooden surfaces, including boxes, and frames!

SUPPLIES:
Printed cardstock paper
matte Mod Podge
nylon paint brush
scissors/paper trimmer
white paint pen (either DecoColor or Montana)
pencil
wood pallet or board

First, pick a pretty paper to be the background for your quote! You will want to avoid choosing a paper that has too much contrast, so if it has a pattern, then it has to not have white or black in it. If you choose a dark paper, your text will really jump off the page, but the pattern might be harder to spot.

Trim your paper down to size to fit neatly on the surface of your wood sign.
Using your brush, generously coat the top of the wood, then lay down your paper. Seal the paper with a layer of matte Mod Podge over the paper surface.

Once it has dried, sketch out your quote lightly with your pencil.
Then use your white Montana marker, or white acrylic DecoColor marker to fill in your quote! I chose the 'I like big cups and I can not lie" as a silly statement to how much I love tea and coffee. Have fun with your quote! Even pair it with some mixed media and glue down some accessories. You can use beads, flowers, starfish, shells, washi tape, glitter, rhinestones, origami, moss, ribbon and so much more!

Happy crafting!

Stenciled Succulent Love

Hey all!
Happy Monday!
I am so in love with succulents, tiny plants, and little garden scenes and wanted to share with you how you can turn your love for succulents into a cute home decor wall hanging!

SUPPLIES:
succulent stencil
foam on a stick
acrylic/fabric paints in lavender, azure, mint, leaf green, lime
embroidery hoop
white leaf patterned fabric
pinking shears or sharp scissors
hot glue
jute/twine

First thing's first: Take your fabric and tightly secure it into your embroidery hoop. Pull taught on all sides, and trim excess fabric with either your pinking shears or sharp scissors leaving a 1-2 inch border around the hoop.

Using your foam on a stick, dip lightly into your acrylic/fabric paint colors. Use a DABBING motion, not a brushing motion. If there is too much paint in the foam it may get blobby so test your technique on a scratch piece of fabric or paper! Hold your stencil very still, and dip your foamy stick into the other colors on your palette without cleaning your foamie in between dips. This technique will create a really smooth blended look.

I focused on more blue in the center, and lavender on the outer tips of the leaves.

Then cut strips of jute/twine and hot glue them into words like
fun,
relax,
summer,
and of course Succa!  aka succulent!

SO MUCH CUTENESS!

Check out our blog every weekday for a new project!

Autumn Rice Mosaic

Hi there! Today I will be showing you how to make an autumn rice mosaic.

You will need the following supplies:

- Raw rice
- Alcohol Ink, your choice of colors
- 4"x4" Art Alternatives Wood Panel
- Tacky Glue
- Mod Podge
- BBQ Skewer
- Small bowls or an old muffin tin

First, pour a handful of rice into a small bowl or container.  Put about five drops of alcohol ink into the bowl.  Mix until all the rice is colored.  Add more drops if you desire more color.  Use a separate bowl for each color you're going to mix.

Next, use a pencil to draw your image on the wood panel.  If you are copying a printed image, you can use graphite paper to transfer it to the panel.

Spread tacky glue over a small section of your image.  Dip the pointed end of your skewer in the tacky glue to make the tip a little tacky.  Use it to pick up and place the rice down one by one.  Work in sections so the tacky glue doesn't dry out.

Once your entire panel is covered with rice, apply a coat of Mod Podge, either matte or glossy depending on your preference.

There you have it! These look great if you have several that you display together.  They could also be used as coasters! There are lots of different things you can do with this.

Until next time, happy crafting!

Felt Flower Wall Art

Hi there!  Today I'll be showing you how to make this adorable wall art.

You will need the following supplies:

- 12x12 Canvas Board
- 12x12 sheet of scrapbook paper, any design
- 12x12 frame
- 2 sheets of 9x12 felt in a color that compliments the scrapbook paper
- Hot glue gun
- Mod Podge

First, use Mod Podge (either matte or glossy) to adhere the scrapbook paper to the canvas board.

Next, cut one sheet of felt into 9 equal pieces measuring 3"x4".  It's easiest to fold the felt in thirds then cut at the creases, Then fold each of those pieces in thirds and do the same.  Cut the 2nd piece of felt into 12 equal pieces measuring 3"x3".

Starting with the bigger felt pieces, fold the bottoms into a W and put glue in the creases.

Next, round off the corners to form a petal.

Do this for all 9 pieces.  Place them in a circle on your canvas board with the glued part facing inwards and glue them down.

Now glue the bottoms of your 3"x3" pieces and round the corners.  Set 3 aside and place the other 9 over your first layer.  Glue them down.

Place the other 3 inside the hole in the middle of your flower and fold them outward. Now place your canvas in the 12x12 frame.

These look cute in a nursery but are also sophisticated enough to hang anywhere in your house.

There you have it and until next time, happy crafting!

Easy-Peasy Wall Art

Who doesn't love doing super simple projects that result in great decor pieces for your home? Well, if you answered anything but "no one" to that question, maybe you shouldn't read the rest of this entry. For everyone else, check it out:

Isn't it so cool? Also, you're going to be so surprised at how easy it is. It literally took me half-an-hour to complete this project. How, you ask? First, gather up your supplies. It's only three things so it should take you about a minute. You'll need 2" vinyl letters, a 12"x12" canvas, and some black spray paint.

Next step, use the vinyl letters to spell out your quote or saying. The letters are great because they stick enough to not let the spray paint seep through, but not enough to hamper your attempts to rearrange them into a more pleasing layout if needed. I actually had to rearrange my letters a couple of times, so believe me, this does come in handy. When you're happy with the way your quote looks, simply spray paint over the letters. Once the paint has dried, you can peel off the vinyl. That's it!

I hope you like it!

TCW Canvas Decor

Check out our new Crafter's Workshop Stencils!

We used:
Canvas
Black Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush
TCW Stencil - Urban Landscape
Modern Spray Pain - Champagne
Silver
Some masking tape

This wall hanging was created with a 9x12 canvas that we painted black. We used the Urban Landscape Stencil with Modern Spray Paint in Champagne Silver. Just tape the stencil down using masking tape and spray with the Modern Spray Paint. If any spray paint gets on the black part of the canvas, just touch up with more black acrylic paint. These stencils are great for any craft and come in SOOO many different styles... it was hard to choose which one to use!!
