Wedding Mermaid Crown

Hello fellow artists and crafters!
This week I've been thinking a lot about this new year and all the magical DIY projects there are to make for a wedding. I am really loving all the inspiration from nature and incorporating organic elements into the ceremony and reception in an elegant way.

I thought I'd experiment with mermaid crowns!

Supplies
16 or 20 guage florist wire
paper wrapped florist wire
stem of small white flowers
white starfish
strand of pearl beads on a wire
hot glue gun / glue sticks
white shells
white primer spray paint
jute / twine
wire cutters
   **optional** Silver glitter Spray

 First, using the paper wrapped wire, twist two pieces together in an oval measured to the circumference of your head. Bend the 16-20 gauge wire into an arch, then twist a few times around the base, and then continue with arches until you've gone the whole way around. You will end up using about 3-4 lengths of 12in wire.

Spray paint the entire crown white, and let sit to dry for about 1 hour.

Next, take the strand of your wire with pearl beads on it and weave it through the open arches you made, wrapping twice to anchor it to the crown.

Hot glue the white shells around the base. I placed my shells over the rough wire ends to hide them.

Glue your starfish on, being sure to only apply glue to the areas that touch the wires, as opposed to coating the entire back with glue.

Next glue in your white flowers!

I then wrapped jute / twine around the rough intersections of wire on the crown to
1) soften the sharp edges
2) add a bit of earthy rope texture in to contrast with the white

I secured the jute / twine with hot glue.

Using the silver flash glitter spray, I misted the entire crown to give it some shimmer!

Have a great week!

Rustic Wedding Centerpiece

Hello, Crafters!
Anyone going down to check out the Hawaii World Class Wedding Expo this coming
Friday and Saturday at the Convention Center for some great ideas for your special day?
Well because of this big event coming up, this week we're going to be making some
 cute centerpieces for a rustic or country garden themed wedding.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Supplies Needed
Two 4 inch wood slices
One 3 inch wood slice
 Hot Glue Gun
Twine
1 1/2 inch Burlap Ribbon
Scissors
Spanish Moss
One Pint Mason Jar
Small chalkboard hanging (pictured later)
Extra Fine Deco paint pen (pictured later)
----------------------------------------------
 Tea Light Votive (I used the metallic silver David Tutera one.)
Tea Light (Flameless or not. Your choice.)
Flowers
Excuse the upside down picture.. My computer was being finicky.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 Let's get started!

 First, I hot glued the smaller wood slice to the larger one and then hot glued the
other large slice on top where they met.  I dotted some hot glue at the places where the slices overlapped and stuck on some of the Spanish moss.

 Next, after removing the lid from the mason jar, I cut about a 10 inch strip of burlap ribbon and hot glued it around the "waist" of the jar.

Then, I wrapped about 20 inches of twine around the ribbon and made a bow.

Next, hot glue the mason jar to the top wood slice.  This is when I also hot glued the
votive to the larger of the slices on the bottom and stuck in the tea light.

 Here is the littlest chalkboard we got in this year.  Isn't it adorable?  Because I wanted the table number to be permanent, I decided to use a paint pen instead of chalk.  You could also use a Bistro chalk marker because those aren't erasable on this surface as well despite it being a chalkboard.
(The only chalk that is removable would be the actual compressed "school" chalk.)

 I hot glued the chalkboard to the base on the small wood slice.  Here is where you could add more Spanish moss on the bottom side of this as well.

Now all there is left to do is add your flower arrangement!  The pink roses with the glittery dew came in our Christmas shipment this year and the small white flowers are something we carry year round in our wedding section.  Aren't they beautiful?  Of course, you could always fluff it up a bit! Maybe with some thin branch tips in the bouquet? A little glitz with some glitter, rhinestones or sequins? Maybe some coarse gold or silver mixed in with some water in the jar?
The possibilities are endless!

I hope this helps inspire all the husbands and wives to be and shows that a DIY wedding is
definitely worth the work!  You get to be original and unique by having total
control over your decorations and favors.
 Be sure to check us out at the Wedding Expo this Friday and Saturday for
more ideas and inspiration!

See you there!

Beautiful Flower Centerpieces

Hi there! Today I will be showing you how to make these beautiful flower pomanders.  They make excellent centerpieces for your upcoming grad or birthday parties, weddings, or just for your home!

You will need the following supplies:

- 1 qty. 5" Styrofoam ball
- 2 or 3 sheets of scrapbook paper, any color (I like the look of the ones with pearl finish)
- Victoria Lynn White Pearl Corsage Pins
- a flower punch, any brand or style
- 1 qty. glass candlestick
- E6000 glue

First, use E6000 to glue the Styrofoam ball to the glass candlestick.

Next, punch out your flowers.  You will use 2-3 sheets depending on how big the flower is and how close together you place them.  Use your finger nails to gently curl up the petals.

Use the corsage pins to attach the flowers to the Styrofoam ball.  I layered 2 flowers together in order to better cover the Styrofoam.

Continue until you cover all the Styrofoam.

These also look great hung.  Use a needle and suji to string through the Styrofoam and make a loop or use E6000 to glue the suji down.  They look nice hung in a cluster at different lengths.

Until next time, happy crafting!

A Stand-Up Type of Frame

I'm a little tired of frames that just sit around doing nothing but hugging pictures. You too? I say let's do more with our frames and have our frames do more for us! Like today I made a standing frame. Or maybe we should call it an elevated frame? Either way it's a whole lot cuter than any regular old frame.

To make one, I just spray painted both the frame and the wooden candlestick using a Design Master spray paint in October Brown. The candle stick was a little tricky to spray because of the shape, but you just have to make sure that you spray in all of the grooves and from all directions. When they dried, I used my E6000 adhesive to glue the frame to the candle stick. Wheee! Done. For an extra touch I made bows with burlap ribbon and then used Fabri-tac to stick them to the frames. Make sure you give both the E6000 and the Fabri-tac 24 hours to really set before putting these frames to the test.

I think these would be great for a wedding table centerpiece or maybe even for a graduation party. They have great height and style and you can display them with or without pictures. Now you'll have to excuse me while I go and make about a hundred of these.

Chalk it Up

We've been going chalk crazy lately! Here's a little peek at all the neat things we've thought up while playing with our chalkboard paints.

Spray wooden plaques with chalkboard paint and attach ribbons for quick and cute wall hanging note centers. We made these especially for a wedding party table to distinguish the bride and groom's special spots.

Speaking of saving spots, these reused wine bottles make great centerpieces or as table number markers. We used our Bistro chalk markers on most of our samples, but you could use regular or colored chalk also. A note of warning regarding the Bistro chalk markers - test your surface in a small area first, sometimes they can stain the surface of your piece.

We've got a lot more ideas waiting for you at our store too. Make sure to come and check them out.

See you soon!
Puna @ Enchanted Lake

P.S. If you scroll down to today's previous post, you can learn how to make a beachy-keen wreath. It's really easy and a lot of fun.
