Graduation Gift Box (unfinished wood box)

Today you'll learn how to create a cute graduation gift box using an unfinished wood.  It's great to give as a gift or you can use it as a center piece.  Let's get started.



Supplies:
Unfinished wood with a removable cover
Acrylic paint - black
Acrylic paint - color of your choice
Paint brush
Hot Glue Gun
12mm Rhinestone (clear/crystal)
DecoColor - Gold (fine tip)

Optional Supplies:
Buttons
DMC Floss


First gather your paint and unfinished wood box.  Paint the bottom of the box with the school color or any color you choose and paint the top (cover) black.

Take your top cover (black) and get your rhinestones.  With a hot glue gun add a dot of hot glue onto the lower part of the cover and add your rhinestone.  Continue this step until you cover the bottom rim of the cover.

Once that is complete, with your gold paint pen draw/write Class of 2015 on the top of the cover.


At this point you can hot glue on a button with a tassel in the middle of the box cover (optional).

And your done!

How to make a graduation tassel two different ways (Part two)

Welcome back for the second part of how to make a graduation tassel two different ways.  Here I will show you a second way of making a tassel.  It's great for graduation centerpieces, party favors and much more.
Let's get started.

Supplies:
DMC Floss (your choice of color)
Scissors
Chipboard

Step One:
Cut your chipboard to the size you want to make your tassel (I'll be using 1in x 2in). Prepare your DMC floss by taking off the paper wrapped around it. Cut off about 10 to 12 inches.

Step Two:

Place the DMC floss and line it up towards the bottom of your chipboard cut out. Start wrapping your DMC floss around the chipboard to your desired thickness (I've wrapped around 30 times).

 

 

Get your scissors and cut the bottom.

Step Three:

Cut your 10 to 12 inch DMC floss in half.  Take one half of the floss and thread it through the top (middle). Tie a knot to secure the middle and take it off the chipboard.  Make another knot at the top to create a loop.

Take the left over string and wrap it around the tassel below the knot (Wrap around 4 times). Tie a knot to secure the ends. Trim of the excess string (optional) or let it blend in with the tassel.  You can also trim the bottom of the tassel if it's uneven.

And you are done!

That completes the series of the graduation tassel two different ways.

Oodles of Noodles- How to make a lei out of pool noddles!

 Hi there! Today I will be showing you how to make a lei out of pool noodles! These leis are a lot of fun and are really easy to make. 

You'll need the following supplies:
- Pool noodle, more than one if you want to make a multi colored lei
- Upholstery thread or suji
- Long lei needle
- Styrofoam cutter or long serrated knife
- an assortment of beads

First, cut your noodle(s) into 1.5" disks.  The amount you need depends on how long your lei is and how many beads your string between each disk. I used 12 for my lei. 

Measure out your length of thread or suji.  Add 6 inches to each end to leave enough room to tie.  String your thread through the lei needles.  Tie a big knot at the end of your thread to keep the noodle from sliding off.  Now you can begin to string your lei! I put beads between each disk to make it a little fancier. 

You can use any type of bead but the bigger ones tend to stand out more. You can also string a bead in the noodle hole and tie a not on either end of the bead so it is suspended in the hole.  Continue alternating noodle and beads until you fill your thread.  Tie the ends together.  You can add a bow or just leave it like that!

These noodle leis are super cute and shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to complete so if you're looking for a quick but unique lei then look no further!

How to make a graduation tassel two different ways (Part one)

Here I will show you how to make a graduation tassel two different ways. This will be a Part 1 and Part 2 series.  You can use these tassels for graduation center pieces, party favors and much more.
Lets get started.

Supplies:
DMC Floss (color of your choice)
Scissors

Step One:
Get your DMC floss. You can take off the paper wrapped around the DMC floss (optional) or leave the paper on.

Cut off about 10-12 inches

 Cut DMC floss in half.

 Step Two:
Get one half of the DMC floss and find the center.

Cut your 10-12inch string in half and place it through the middle.

Tie a knot to secure the middle. Once the middle is secured tie a knot where the string adjoins towards the top to create a loop.

Step Three:
Take the other half of the string and start wrapping it around the tassel just below the knot. You can wrap it around 4 to 5 times. Tie a knot to secure the ends.

 

You can trim off the excess string or let it blend in with the tassel.  You can trim the bottom of the tassel if it's uneven.

And your tassel is complete.
