You will need the following supplies:
- 4 oz Jelly Jar
- 1 qty. 1/2" x 3/4"craft cork
- Americana Multi- Surface paint in red, apple green OR Krylon Spray Paint (recommended if doing several jars) in red and green
- brown acrylic paint
- paint brush
- cardstock to match the color of your green paint
- Marvy Uchida large oval punch (purple)
- hot glue gun
- chalkboard labels (either style)
- Bistro chalk marker
First, unscrew the lid of your jar and paint both pieces using the green paint. Paint the outside of the jar red while the green paint is drying. If using the Americana paint, you will need to do several coats. Let the paint dry completely between each coat. You can use a blow dryer or heat tool to speed up the wait time. Also if using the Americana paint, all 3 pieces of the jar will need to be baked in the oven in order for the paint to set. Follow baking instructions on the paint bottle. If you do not bake it, the paint will scrape off.
If you are going to make several of these jars, then I recommend using the Krylon spray paint. This brand, as opposed to other spray paint brands, specifically says that it can be used on glass.
Once your jar is painted, use the brown acrylic paint to paint the cork.
Next, punch out an oval from the green cardstock. Partially re-insert the punched out oval into the punch in order to create a leaf. Flip over and punch out one more.
Gently fold the leaves in half to give them some dimension. Reassemble the jar. Use hot glue gun to adhere the cork and leaves to the lid of the jar. There is an oval on the front of the jelly jar where you can place the chalkboard label. Use the Bistro chalk marker to write the teacher's name.
And there you have it! You can put a little treat inside and it can be reused for desk supplies like paper clips or rubber bands. Teachers will surely feel loved when they receive this specially made jar.
