Resin-ating Everything

You may have seen a lot of posts lately about our new UV Crystal Resin that we are now carrying in our stores. That's probably because this product is so super cool that all of us are excited about using it. I personally like this resin because it makes making classy jewelry amazingly easy and, well, classy looking. Also, as you will soon find out, it is gloriously versatile in the things that can be done with it.

This lovely Parisian looking piece is a cell phone charm straight out of a kit. The kit includes everything that you see (plus more) and everything you need to make this chic charm.

This pendant borrows an idea from the lovely Beth at our Mapunapuna store. I was so in love with her sprinkle pendant that I just had to make one for myself. I mean, who doesn't love candy?

This nautical stunner was made by our very own Toni and is a purse hook. I'm thinking handmade Christmas gifts for all those large handbags that my friends frequently tote around.

And this piece, believe it or not, is a jelly jar lid. This is another great gift idea for Christmas. Give to your friends who need a small jewelry holder that is just as elegant as their jewelry.

What did I say? Totally versatile, right? I'll expect to see you all in our stores soon to get your hands on some awesome resin-ating fun.

Resin Working with Shells

Check out these AWESOME Shells created using UV Resin, Photos and some embellishments!!

Supplies:
Photos (Printed on Computer Paper)
Sea Shells
UV Resin
UV Lamp
Mod Podge
Small Brush
Embellishments (Rhinestones, Glitter, Small metal embellishments and tiny pearls)
Sand (Tan Color)

How To:

Use Mod Podge to adhere the photo to the inside of the shell by brushing a coat onto the shell itself and also brushing a coat onto the back of the photo. Carefully rub out any air bubbles with your fingers. Once the Mod Podge dries, Pour some UV Resin onto the edges of the shells and dip them into Sand, place under the UV Light for a few minutes and take out. Coat the photo and the inside of the shell with Resin and place back under the UV light for a few minutes to harden. Use Rhinestones and small embellishments by coating the embellishments with Resin on the shells and placing under the UV Light to harden.

Use these shells as a way to display your trips and memorabilia. They would look great scattered in a bowl or even on a magnet! Glue a ribbon on them as a Christmas Ornament!

Snowflakes for Sandy Hook

If you're following our Facebook page, you may have already heard that on Saturday, December 22nd, our Enchanted Lake Ben Franklin store decided to take part in a small initiative to make snowflakes for the survivors of Sandy Hook.

When we found out that the PTSA of Sandy Hook was collecting snowflakes to hang in the school rooms following the Christmas break, we knew that it was something that our employees and our customers would be passionate about taking part in.

We just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took part in our snowflake decorating on Saturday. Sandy Hook will soon be receiving all of the wonderful snowflakes that you helped to make, each one carrying Hawaii's aloha, hope, and well wishes along with it.

Hair Appeal

For today's blog entry I decided to focus on a section of our store that, I think, often gets overlooked. You may not have known this but we have a wonderful selection of hair accessories that can make great gifts or even wonderful children's craft projects. The reason why you may not have noticed these incredibly cute accessories is that they are located in our jewelry section.

With just a little decorating, these barrettes and clips can become amazing, fast, hair accessories.

For all of the pieces on the blog today I used one of these two different types of clips. The silver one is an alligator clip and the the gold is a bobby-pin like barrette.

Now that you have your clips it's time to decorate them. Look around your house for simple ideas to just add on to your clips. You can start off easy with a simple bow like this one. I hot-glued this bow together and then onto an alligator clip.

Small rhinestones also make great additions to your clip collection. This shamrock shaped rhinestone is a seasonal item we brought in for St. Patrick's Day. To glue this piece together, you might want to use a glue specifically made for rhinestones, like Aleene's Jewel-It or Beacon's Gem-Tac. Other glues may give your rhinestones a cloudy look to them.

If you've done any scrapbooking lately, you know that buttons are no longer just for clothing. Now we can also add buttons to our list of great hair accessories. I used a button shank remover to take the shank off of these glittery slipper buttons and then glued them to an alligator clip with some ribbon on it.

Last, but not least, you can always make your own great decorations like I did with this felt shamrock. I think this will be my piece of green so I don't get pinched by anyone on St. Patrick's Day.

Remember, you can always drop in at our Enchanted Lake store to see these samples or for other great projects.

Crankin' Out Crafts Episode 10: Halloween Mask

Welcome to a new week for Crankin’ Out Crafts, the show for crafters on the go who want to be in the know. We’re continuing with Halloween this week but instead of décor we will focus on quick costume fixes for those last minute Halloween partygoers.

Today’s episode, “Don’t be a Halloweenie Mask,” is presented by Werewolf Attacked Brandon.

Click here to watch Episode 10: Crankin' Out Crafts: Episode 10 - Halloween Mask

Brandon (aka Scratch-Face) uses spray paint the color of an autumn sky to make his Halloween mask. No one will call him a Halloweenie because of his lack of costume this year.

Supplies for those last minute partygoers who don’t want to be Halloweenies:
Blank plastic mask
Spray paint (autumn sky blue or color of choice)
DecoColor pen
Tacky glue
Rhinestones
Hot glue sticks and gun
Big, fake, wire feather or real feathers

Coming up on Wednesday, we have another costume idea to save you from embarrassing comments about your lack of costume. (We can’t guarantee that you won’t still get embarrassing comments about wearing THIS costume, however.) Don’t miss it!
