Starry Stone Cauldron

Hey fellow crafters!
Check out this crazy amazing cauldron!

And it's SO easy to make!

Supplies:
Krylon charcoal stone spray
glass bowl with curly feet
plastic or vinyl stickers (stars) but you can also use alphabet letters
rubbing alcohol/cloth or paper towel
newspapers to protect surface
firefly lights

First wipe down your glass vase with rubbing alcohol and a cloth. This will remove any smudges or fingerprints so the spray can coat the glass evenly.

Then apply your stickers all over the face, ensuring that the edge is smooth and flat with the glass. You don't want the spray to drip behind the sticker!

Then lay the vase upside down on your newspaper, blocking the inside from any of the mist and spray away! Keep in mind the texture will occur quickly. Though it comes out at high pressure you'll want to do more coats vs. coating it all at once in order to avoid pesky drips. 

This stone spray needs to dry completely before removing the stickers. No sneak peeks! Let sit for 1 hour, then carefully peel off your stars.

Throw in some warm white firefly lights in there to really make your stars shine!
Or red and purple lights would be fun!

Halloween Apothecary Jar

     Are you ready for some frightful fun?  Halloween is next month, and it's about time for us crafters to get started on our spooky decor for the holiday.  Today, I have the perfect project lined up so that you will be ready for some ghoulish fun... A Halloween Apothecary Jar!

Let's get started!

You will need

Glass jar

Black Chalky Finish

Acrylic Paint (Assorted Colors) 

Brown Paint or Distress Ink

Brown or Black Paint Marker or Felt Pen

Scissors

Glue Gun

Cardstock

Step 1: Take the top off your jar if it comes with one. Squirt some hot glue onto the rim of the jar and let it run down the sides.  Don't let it run too much!

Step 2(not pictured): After your glue is dry, paint the entire jar with the black chalky finish.  It doesn't have to be perfect!  Remember, it's old and distressed.  Unless you want to sand it later, let your dry brush to all the work.  Leave some pockets of glass visible.  Streaks?  Who cares! Also, keep in mind that you want to leave the glue gun "leaks" on the rim of your jar as clear as you can.

Step 3: Draw/write your label onto your cardstock and cut it out.  I recommend using a brown or black pen to stick to the vintage look. 

Step 4: Crumble up your label.  Yup.  Do it.  This will make it look more old and distressed because of the added texture.

 

Step 5: Now you want to unfold your label again and then weather your label with some brown paint.  Use a dry brush and very little paint.  Mod Podge this label onto your jar and let dry.

Step 6: Distress your jar even further by using your dry brush and some green paint to add more detail to the leaks. You can make it more dimensional by adding gold to your leaks.  I decided to streak just a little bit of the green and gold onto the rest of the jar as well.  It's okay if you go over the label a little bit too, as long as you stick to the borders.

 Step 7: This part is optional, but hot-gluing some moss onto the sides and top of your jar will add a really creepy and Witch-y look.

Also, if you have a cork that fits your jar, or if you're lucky and your jar already cam with one, you can make it look dingier by lightly staining it brown to make it darker.  After that, hot glue bits of moss onto it and glue it back onto your jar!

     All you Potterheads out there, make some noise!  Apothecary jars are that perfect mix of creepy, dark, mysterious, magical and fascinating.  What's cooler feeling like you have all the different ingredients around you to make a potion or conduct a spell?  Now, you can!  Create your own apothecary and potion jars this Halloween for some magical decor!  Then, you can invite friends and family to "Come sit for a spell.." (Ba dum TSS!)

Hello Kitty Witch Pumpkin

Happy Halloween Hello Kitty!!

Painting pumpkins is a huge trend this Halloween.  I saw this Hello Kitty Witch painted pumpkin, and had to make one as soon as possible!!!!

1) Using Crafter's Acrylic white paint and a poly-foam sponge, I painted my pumpkin white with two coats.  *Tip- it helps to clean off your pumpkin and make sure it has dried thoughrally before painting. 
2)While the paint was drying, i grabbed a black foamies sheet (to cut whiskers and small ovals for eyes), a yellow Felties sheet (cut small oval for the nose) and a thick white foamies sheet (for the ear or ears).  I used a small pumpkin, but any size will do, as long as it's shape is wide and round.  The size of your eyes, nose, whiskers and ears will depend on the size of pumpkin you chose.  I didn't use a template, I just winged it..
3) I used E600 Glue to attach the pieces and I think it turned out just fine! 

4) We have these fancy witch hats in all different sizes and ready for Kitty to wear!  I just placed it over the pumpkin stem and tadaaah!

WITCHY WITCH MAGNET BOARD

I absolutely love the magnet boards that are featured on Crankin' Out Crafts in our store now,  they are so fun and easy to create. So, since Halloween is (believe it or not) right around the corner, and happens to be my favorite holiday...I was inspired to created this Witchy Witch magnet board that I just love.  

To create the witch hat shape, I simply took a 12x12 sheet of black card stock and laid two pieces of orange card stock (8.5x11 or 12x12 will do) as seen in the picture above.  I secured the paper with double sided tape, trimmed the edges with scissors and a paper cutter. Next, I used double sided tape to secure the hat image to a 12x12 metal sheet.  

Using Foamies Sheets, I cut two 3" wide strips out of a green sheet, and 8, 3'' by 1'' strips and shoes from a black sheet.

I assembled all the pieces of my magnet board with double sided tape and added ribbon and bows to give an adorability to our witch. I made magnets using plastic spiders, glass tiles and halloween paper designs. You can punch two holes in the top and use  ribbon to hang your magnet board in your home or classroom. This is a great craft the whole family can do and enjoy together!
