I Heart Floral Wreaths

Hey Everyone! 

I wanted to do something cute for Valentine's Day that was a bit different from the pink, red, and white vibe this year and was inspired by more purples, berry colors, and champagne shimmers in making this fun heart wreath!

Supplies  

Heart shaped straw wreath
2 bunches of artificial flowers
hot glue gun / glue sticks
wire cutters
2-3 inch wide wire ribbon

First, wrap ribbon all the way around your wreath, with slight overlapping. Hot glue first piece, and last piece. Wrap very tightly.

Once ribbon is secured, using wire cutters, cut flowers off leaving some stem length. Remove all greenery from bouquet and set aside for later.

Curl bottom of wire stem to desired flower height and hot glue flat curled wire to the wreath. Continue per flower until desired. To maintain heart shape, angle flower head downwards at the inner and outer points of the heart, to dramatically enhance its shape. 

Use leftover leaves and greenery to fill around the inner and outer heart shape, to hide all that wire, and fill all those holes!

 

 

So lovely!! I am really digging these pinks and berry purples!

Mermaid Scale Frame

Get ready for a whole lot of purple!

Instead of the usual teal and pink combination that we usually associate with 

the mermaid, I'm putting another enchanting hue in the spotlight.

Over the past few months, mermaids have been EVERYWHERE.

(We even have a mermaid birthday party as this month's Pinspiration Station theme

at our Pearl City Store!)  So, what I've decided to make this week was a

 mermaid-themed gift that was simple to make, 

and REALLY affordable.  It's also a great summer project to do with your kids.

This project, my fellow crafters, is a Mermaid Scale Frame!

***  Supplies Needed  ***

SPC Wooden Frame

4 inch Wooden Letter

Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint*

1 inch Flat Acrylic Paintbrush

Hot Glue Gun or Wood Glue

Paint Pen*

*use color(s) desired

 The colors I used for my frame were multiple shades of purple, teal and white.

The exact names are Passion Purple, Lavender, GP Purple, White and Coastal Waters.

(The last color mentioned was actually a Delta Americana acrylic paint, which basically just dries to

a Satin finish instead of matte like Ceramcoat.)

I made a scalloped, "scale" pattern starting from the bottom of my frame.  

Every time I painted the next layer of scales up, I made sure to overlap the previous one. 

This is where you can have fun with the colors.  Even if you have only four or five colors,

you can mix them up to make new shades or even add depth to your scales.  For example,

I blended a little of the dark GP Purple into the lighter Passion purple shade to get a nice shadow effect.  After letting your scales dry, you can even add some detail by dotting on dark paint over the light-colored scales and vice versa.  

 

I then painted the wooden letter and added pearl detailing using a BoBunny Pearl Pen.

This is basically a puffy paint for hard crafts and scrapbooking.  It works on wood, paper and clay

and dries to a pearlized finish.  After this, I glued the 'M' to the top right corner of my frame!

To personalize it even more, you can even write the name of your friend, mom, sister or whoever the 

receiver of this amazing gift is on your frame with a paint pen.  I used a black fine tip Montana marker.  That wraps up this project!  As always, don't hesitate to change it up and make it your own.

Royal Tray in Purple and Glitter

Hey, Everyone! 
 
Today’s project was inspired by three things; LBell’s glittery layered resin key chains, crowns and my obsession with trays. My home is filled with trays that I rotate in and out depending on what I’m working on. It’s a great way to stay organized and keep the mess to a dull roar! I have trays for current projects, trays for snacking, tray for  makeup…but I digress. 

I had come across these gorgeous vintage black and white crown images just two days before I had the opportunity to sit down for one of LBell’s make and take workshops. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with them though until that moment. I grabbed one of our unfinished trays and got to work!

The finished product incorporates a couple of different mediums. My first step was to paint the whole thing with Americana in Lavender Fields. While that was drying, I used a technique called ‘selective embossing’ to add color and dimension to the crown prints, the two small images and the quote, then glued them down with mod podge. I placed my feather where I was going to want it, then arranged self adhesive rhinestones in a couple of colors around all of it. With all of my big decor placed, I was ready to pour my first layer of resin. I used our envirotex resin and poured a thin layer, making sure to smooth and remove any bubbles. 

While the resin was still tacky, I added various glitter to highlight the color variation, incorporating silver, gold, purple and blue. Another layer of resin and glitter to give it the layered effect, and a final layer of resin to seal everything in finished off the main portion of the tray. 

All that was left was to add some interest to the outside. I used Americana’s Yellow Gold, mod podge and glitter to make it as pretty as the rest of the tray, touched up the handle cut outs with the lavender paint and sealed it with Triple Thick Gloss Glaze. 

I jumped in to this project full speed ahead and had so much fun coming up with different things to add in. I’m so pleased with how it turned out. It’s really a multimedia piece of functional art! It was so much fun in fact that I’m thinking I’ll offer a workshop for anyone who would like to make their own custom tray, so keep an eye on our craft calendar! 

Speaking of classes, I just have to go a little off topic and mention an Easter special class that we have coming up. The talented Eileen Tokita is going to be teaching students how to cut and decorate a real duck egg to make an easter keepsake panorama with an adorable bunny on Saturday, the 19th at 1:00 pm.
